We took this trip in August 2023. We stayed in the northern part of the island of Gran Canaria, in Bañaderos.
Something that especially struck me—and which I believe is repeated across all the islands—is the strong contrast between the north and the south. The north consists of more local neighborhoods, with an authentic atmosphere and little tourist traffic. In contrast, the south is full of infinite-story macro-hotels, pools, leisure... which totally destroys the landscape.
